Aquatic Therapy:
What is Aqua PT?
Aquatic therapy uses buoyancy of water to
allow exercise progressively. Our warm water allows the muscles to stay
relaxed during exercise allowing better stretching and can reduce pain.
What does it do?
Aquatic therapy is used to enhance
balance, strength, circulation, and range of motion, reduce stress, and
protect joints during exercise.
What ailments benefit from aquatic therapy?
Many injuries receive benefits through
aquatic therapy. Joint sprains, muscle strains, chronic pains, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and weight-bearing disorders, as well as joint replacements
and reconstructive surgeries.
Who should not have aquatic therapy?
Almost everyone is capable of receiving aquatic therapy except for
people with large open wounds, high blood pressure which is not controllable, and allergies to the bromine we use in
the pool.
How warm do we keep the water?
Our temperature runs anywhere between
93-99 degrees. It is difficult to fluctuate the temperature to high 80’s
to high 90’s but we do try to accommodate temperatures for our patients.
How do you get aquatic PT?
It is just like any other therapies we
offer; you will need a prescription for aquatic PT and/or PT from your
doctor. Many times, if we have a prescription for PT and feel the patient
is a candidate for aquatic we will offer them aquatic to compliment the
land PT we offer. |
